Michael Rein, born in Aachen, is a German violinist and conductor, member of the 1st violin group of Phion and regularly playing in numerous orchestras like WDR-Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Gürzenich-Orchestra Cologne, Noord Nederlands Orkest in Groningen and the symphony orchestras of Aachen, Wuppertal, Münster and Osnabrück. In 2022 he was invited to play in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival. He is active as chamber musician in various ensembles like the Dutch Valerius- and the German Emsland-Ensemble and plays a  Camillo Camilli violin from 1740 provided by the Jaap van Zweden/Ferdinand Fransen foundation.


During the recent years he studied conducting at the Maastricht Conservatory and at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Enrico Delamboye, Jan Stulen, Jac van Steen and Arjan Tien and he participated in various masterclasses with Jorma Panula, Isaac Karabtchevsky,  Carlos Eduardo Prates, Julius Kalmar, Mark Heron and Clark Rundell. He conducted the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Lüneburger Sinfoniker, the Vaasa City Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra, the Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta and the Orquestra de Câmara SESIMINAS and was assistant conductor for Jan Willem de Vriend (Schwetzinger Festspiele), Arjan Tien (Jeugd Orkest Nederland and Nederlands Studenten Orkest) and Alpesh Chauhan (Netherlands Symphony Orchestra).


In the scope of his masters-studies he has focused on ensemble-works from the time of Arnold Schoenbergs Viennese “Society for private musical performances”. He writes arrangements of orchestral music of the 20th century for this type of ensemble, most recently Alexander Zemlinskys “Symphonic Songs op. 20”


He is in great demand for coaching violin sections of  the Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands, Nederlands Studenten Orkest, Nederlands Strijkersgilde, Nieuw Nijmeegs Kamerorkest, Symfonia Jong Twente, Twents Jeugd Symfonie Orkest and the World Doctor’s Orchestra.


For many years he has a close relation to South America: he toured already in Chile, Bolivia and Brasil and was six times invited to play and teach at the FIMUPA festival in Belém do Para in the Amazonas region. He gave masterclasses for the Academy of the Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica in Rio de Janeiro and for Neojiba in Slavador da Bahia and Feira de Santana. 


Michael Rein maintaines a special relationship with the NGO  "Espaço Cultural da Grota" in Niteroi (RJ), where he conducted since 2023 various times the Orquestra da Grota. In april 2024 he was conductor and soloist of the orchestra during a concert tour to Brasils oldest theatre in Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais). Due to the overwhelmingly enthousiast reactions of the audience they were immediately reinvited to play at the festival de inverno in july 2024.
